How does the California guide describe sudden damage?
The California Department of Insurance lists sudden and accidental water damage among typically covered homeowners-policy perils. Its guide lists flood and damage caused by seepage or leaks among generally excluded perils and specifically advises reading exclusions. Those general labels do not identify the cause at one Inglewood address.
Does a flood map decide payment?
No. Los Angeles County links FEMA's map and California My Hazards as tools for researching location risk, not as claim decisions. Standard homeowners insurance typically does not cover flood damage, the County says; ask your insurer which policy, deductible, conditions and exclusions apply to the actual event.
Which separate questions belong in an estimate?
Ask whether drying, material removal and reconstruction are included, and take the independent provider's written scope to the insurer. The cost page models work, not reimbursement. Do not treat a contractor's description or a web calculator as a coverage approval.
